First it was the rozzers, now British bin men are getting BlackBerrys as part of their job equipment pack.
Biffa, a private garbage collection firm responsible for cleaning up 25 local authorities around the UK, has agreed a £1.7 million ($2.44 million) deal with Vodafone for the provision of some 1,500 BlackBerry handsets along with dongles and 3G data cards.
This somewhat curious capital investment has been made in order to allow drivers to download maps, collect data from customers, liaise with head office, and even take photos where necessary.
The RIM phones will also allow Biffa to track its trucks’ locations — an option that’s sure to get plenty of use, considering how much Brits love to keep an eye on things. Read the rest of this entry »

The military currently trains its soldiers using PCs, but they were interested in switching to the Xbox 360 for a number of reasons. Unfortunately, Microsoft was not too interested in helping them out.
According to Danger Room, Microsoft refused to sell consoles to Roger Smith, chief technology officer for PEO STRI, the Army command responsible for purchasing training equipment. Why wouldn’t Microsoft sell them consoles? Well, according to Smith, three reasons:
* Microsoft was afraid that the military would buy up lots of Xbox 360s, but would buy only one game for each of them, so MS wouldn’t make much money off of the games.
* that a big military purchase would create a shortage of Xbox 360s.
* that if the Xbox became an Army training device, it would taint its reputation. Microsoft was concerned that “do we want the Xbox 360 to be seen as having the flavor of a weapon? Do we want Mom and Dad knowing that their kid is buying the same game console as the military trains the SEALs and Rangers on?” Smith told me during an interview for Training & Simulation Journal.
When asked about this, a Microsoft rep claimed to have no knowledge of that conversation and suggested the Army uses the XNA Game Studio development tools. Sure, Microsoft. But they didn’t say they were opposed to working with the Army. Read the rest of this entry »

Cool, but also kinda funny, because although this list has like half a dozen different Atari 2600 models, mentioning that their differences are important to a collector, it only shows one NES, while I know for a fact there were at least two versions of that console. Still, very neat.
You will see a compilation of more than 100 video game consoles. There are also computers in this series but they could play video games too and some people used them more for gaming than anything else at the time… You will find in this list portable consoles, accessories, packages…etc too! It should bring back memories even to the oldest of you.
A great list. Enjoy! Read the rest of this entry »

So you probably got used to using your regular controllers for your Wii, XBox 360 or PS3. That is what most people did and many of them never thought much of it either. Well these modders just couldn’t settle for standard, and they had to take matters in to their own hands to mod their controllers to do what they wanted them to do.
The following 17 game console controllers have been modded in ways which left them much different than their original forms.
- The Wiimote AK-47 Mod

This Wiimote mod really takes Wii first person shooters to the next level. It has a Wiimote IR sensor modded into the muzzle, along with a function trigger. Read the rest of this entry »
