The iPad has finally made its international debut, meaning that thousands and thousands of new users will be enjoying Apple’s latest device over the coming weeks.

With the launch of the iPad comes the international launch of the iPad App Store, making it possible for us to play Words With Friends with our friends in Australia.

There are already thousands of apps available in the App Store, and with the exception of apps focused on media services like Netflix, ABC or Pandora, most are also available internationally.

We’ve been fortunate enough to have the iPad in our screen-smudging paws for the past two months and in that time we’ve surveyed well over 100 apps and games for the new platform. While this list could easily be four or five times as long as it is, we wracked our brains and decided to pick ten of our favorite iPad apps for the new iPad owner. Read the rest of this entry »

iPad Still Selling Like Crazy, Sold-Out at Most Apple Stores

According to Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster, in most of Apple’s retail stores in the U.S. the iPad is either sold-out or in very limited supply, especially the 3G model.

Furthermore, Apple’s online store now lists that iPad is shipping in 7-10 days (previously it was 5-7) days, which also indicates that Apple is selling more iPads than it anticipated.

“Seventy-four percent of the stores we checked were completely sold out of all iPad models, 26 percent had some WiFi models in stock, and no stores had any 3G models available,” Munster claims.

iPad sales have been phenomenal from the very beginning. Earlier this month, Apple announced it had sold one million iPads. On May 28, iPad is slated to begin shipping in European countries.

The question is: Will Apple have enough iPads to satisfy the demand?

Thinking of buying an iPad, but the $829 price tag for the top model strikes you as a touch too plebeian?

UK-based luxury gadget designer Stuart Hughes has come to the rescue with a solid gold, diamond-encrusted version of Apple’s “magical” and “revolutionary” tablet.

The price is £129,995, or approximately $189,125, for a 3G iPad with 53 flawless diamonds on the Apple logo and a casing of solid 22ct gold.

Even if you’re willing to dish out this much money for a tablet, keep its weight in mind — the device is 2.1kg, or approximately 4.4 pounds, due to all of that gold.

If you’re the kind of person who has no problem walking into the Apple Store on Walnut Street dressed in some urban approximation of safari gear, you’ll probably go wild for Scottevest.

The company sells travel vests and jackets that feature a million gadget-friendly pockets and little conduits for wires and such, meaning that even the geekiest among us can have a somewhat acceptable-looking PAN, if that’s what you’re into.

And now its SeV Travel Vest is iPad compatible! Available July 1st for $100, please feel free to hit that source link to pre-order today. We will continue to look into the rumor that this is actually a re-badged Joojoo vest. Read the rest of this entry »

Seton Hill University hands out iPads to students

If there’s one thing that universities are good at, it’s dreaming up trendy technology initiatives. Apple knows that (as does McGraw-Hill) so it’s no surprise that the company’s been pushing to get the iPad adopted by schools around the country.

And so it begins: Seton Hill University, a school in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, has announced that starting this fall all full-time students will get a slate of their own.

We thought that the Kindle as textbook replacement idea was a little whackadoodle, and we don’t have much hope in the iPad as a textbook replacement either.

But if the school’s aim is to get students playing Super Monkey Ball and up-to-date on Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew, then we might have a winner here.

Steve Jobs seemingly elected to reply to another question sent to his SJobs [at] apple.com email address yesterday, this time in response to a question about support for Google’s Picasa photo sharing service on the iPad:

In short: no, the iPad won’t support Picasa albums or face recognition … and Jobs takes the opportunity to point out that iPhoto does a better job in his opinion. 9to5Mac, which first posted the thread, confirmed the authenticity of the mail by the mail headers.

How do you get Steve Jobs to respond to your emails? We’ve no idea, but a couple of Apple fans seem to have had luck in recent weeks. Read the rest of this entry »

World's first diamond iPad tries to live up to those magical claims

Get ready for some buyer’s remorse if you’re one of the thousands who pre-ordered an iPad last Friday: your soon-to-be new toy already pales in comparison to the $19,999 diamond-coated iPad from Mervis Diamond Importers.

What you have here is a stock unit of undisclosed specifications that’s been coated with 11.43 carats of G/H color diamonds rated VS2/SI1 for clarity – not exactly top-shelf stuff but chances are you’ll be so transfixed with the amazingly beautiful user experience you won’t notice the flaws.

This poor iPad is just the latest in a long line of ridiculously expensive gad. Read the rest of this entry »

Apple has just posted details on its iPad battery replacement service, which is really not a battery replacement service at all. Check out the company’s opening line:

“If your iPad requires service due to the battery’s diminished ability to hold an electrical charge, Apple will replace your iPad for a service fee.”

Now, let’s compare that to the verbiage found in the iPhone’s battery replacement program details:

“If your iPhone requires service only because the battery’s ability to hold an electrical charge has diminished, Apple will service your iPhone for a service fee.”
