Bendable Display is Real

Remember the I Robot movie where they used holographic video messages that were stuck in a small plate-like installation? They also used a rolling out video displays in their portable devices. Sony has made a big step towards it. They have developed a display that can be bent. The new bendable display is very thin and it is a 2.5 inch one. I am sure they can now make any sizes thanks to their new technologies. Sony’s thin film transistor and electroluminescent technologies allow scientists to make a bendable display. Do not try to bend your LCD display at home; it cannot bend, even if it’s from Sony.

Saying thin I meant that the display is really thin. It is 0.3 mm thick which is about 0.12 of an inch. Imagine that? I personally think that this display will open a new era of cell phones, GPS navigators and all the portable media players. Why? Simply because the thickest thing on a device is its display. Who invents the thinnest display has the thinnest cell phone that everybody loves. Having all those advantages as opposed to usual LCD displays this baby is really expensive too. Sony is still trying to make this a cheaper product so that usual people like us can buy their gadget. Well, it will be out of my allowance’s price range for a year or two.

Cloning your hard drive is easy with the DriveWire

One of the most annoying things I used to do when in the computer repair business was to clone a hard drive for someone. Sure, it was a fairly easy task, but it dominated my computer for hours on end for something so simple. Sure, there are a number of disc cloning systems out there, but those are generally pretty salty. This DriveWire adapter from Apricorn Products looks rather enticing.

At first it just seems like it’s your average external drive connector. However, this product comes with its own cloning software that will take care of everything for you. Unfortunately, they don’t say how long it takes to perform the clone, and I can’t imagine that you’d be able to continue using your PC once the cloning process had begun. On second thought, maybe this wouldn’t be a great alternative.

At the very least, this wouldn’t be a bad tool for those that find themselves working on drives on a regular basis. It comes with connectors for SATA and ATA drives (desktop and notebook) . You can pick one up $39.99

SAFA X-Lay portable media player

Safa has a spanking new portable media player known as the X-Lay. This little device does more than just play audio as it handles video as well, including APE, FLAC, WMA, WAV and MP3 formats. Unfortunately, the tiny screen size that measures a mere 1.8″ isn’t going to be of any good to your eyes for long hours of viewing. I suppose this is great if you want to catch a quick Britney Spears video, as three hour movie marathons are a no-no for the health of your eyes. Other features include an integrated FM radio, a photo album, and e-book support among others. The X-Lay will come in 1GB and 2GB capacities that retail for $95 and $116 respectively.

GPS Jacket helps keep kids safe

The way we live is based on certain rules. How often the Murphy law makes us be away in those situations when people we love need our help more than ever before. Harder it is when this people are our kids.

A new gadget from Bladerunner steps over this rules and allows you to know and see where your kid is – the GPS children’s jacket. It is the latest satellite detectable clothing based on GPS satellite technology.

Generally speaking it is a small chip sized device easily fitted into a pocket with an even smaller rechargeable 15 hours battery.

All you need is a computer or a mobile phone to track this missing jacket. On the first sight looks as an ordinary one, better saying won’t make your child look as an alien. It is even better. Has a pocket for your child’s iPod.

Jacket’s accuracy is up to 4 square metres and every 10min you receive new positional updates. Be prepared as the GPS information may be interfaced in real time thanks to Google Earth. However, its intelligence doesn’t stop here. As soon as your kid leaves that particular area an alert will let you know about that.

If you child left school and got to the City Mall you will hear beeping sound. If you child left his friend’s house and got to his neighbor – beep.

Besides all that even kids will love it because in any case of emergency they can alert you by just pushing the alert button twice. Though the cost may seem high to you – 512 USD, plus 20 USD monthly satellite charge a question appears “Does your kid’s life and security has a price?”

Nano Sized Bendable Batteries – Future is Near

The biggest problem of all gadgets is battery life. Cell phone or audio player, it becomes completely dead when its battery is depleted. Sometimes it is very annoying when in the middle of long trip you are left with no gadgets to entertain you. Moreover, dead GPS in a forest or tourist journey can mean a ruined trip. The only solution to this problem is better batteries. However, the laws of nature are cruel – the more battery holds, the bigger and heavier it is. However, an answer comes straight from nanotechnologies.

Scientists at UCLA have made an interesting, yet useful invention. They built and showed to the public the first nanotube batteries, which will be, as we think, a great replace for modern Li-Ion or Li-Pol batteries. They are less than millimeter thin, and have the structure almost like the old rechargeable batteries do, using zinc-carbon makeup – they are composed of thin layers of zinc and manganese oxide over a layer of nanotubes. They are very thin and small, and because of nanotubes they are bendable too.

Unfortunately, the energy produced by this type of batteries is very small at this level. However, with the current rate of technology development, it will be easy to solve that problem – that’s what lead scientist George Gruner says.

In the future, these nano-batteries can be used even for producing a powered T-Shirts or jackets – imagine your clothes, that recharge your gadgets while you are on the go. It is amazing to think that huge and heavy box-like batteries as we know them now will become a thing of the past, making way for a true high-tech thin and bendable ones.

Book Camera will make Stealth Recordings an Easy Work

We already spoke about plenty of surveillance devices. Voice recording watches, bubblegum-sized cameras, etc. However, imagine a situation, when you need to make a step forward in this domain, and make high quality video and sound recordings with a candid camera. Usual miniDV cameras are too big to be well hidden, so you must think about some sort of camouflage. Which thing will be the perfect camouflage of a hidden recorder? Probably a boring looking book will do.

Book Camera is a nifty gadget that enhances your stealth recording experience and bringing it to a new level. It is designed to look like a usual book, you will never guess that in the inside there is surveillance equipment installed and running. It can be left on a bookshelf, controlled with a remote controller it will be a perfect choice for investigations. It is almost completely unnoticeable with its tiny microphone and small lens. It can record high quality video with sound on a SD card, which means that you are limited to the size of your flash card, since we do not know how much do recordings take this is not a pleasant limitation. Nonetheless, this spy gadget will do its work flawlessly, capturing images and storing them inside. All recordings can be data and time stamped, so you will know when the video was recorded.

Maybe these spy gadgets will help us to discover the truth, or to know something that is not meant to be known. However, be careful, because it will be very unpleasant surprise, if somebody discovers that he is being recorded. It is sold for almost 1300 USD, which is a very high price in our opinion.

Still drooling over the big green tinged diamond dug out in South Africa and the largest D-color flawless diamond? Astronomers have now found the largest diamond of all times in space. Its weight is being reported to make up ten billion trillion trillion carats or five million trillion trillion pounds. This gigantic space diamond is virtually a huge hunk of crystallized carbon, 4,000 kilometers in diameter. The space diamond has been christened Lucy in a tribute to the Beatles song ‘Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds.’ The precious stone is floating in space at a distance of 50 light years away, in the Constellation Centaurus. Lucy, also called BPM 37093, is in fact a crystallized white dwarf. It is being believed that the diamond is the heart of a dead star that used to shine like the Sun. Unfortunately, nobody will be able to lay his/her hands on the biggest ever diamond found floating in space.
